Hackathons

I recently participated in a 3-day hackathon and my team emerged as finalists! I worked with 2 other team members, one from Australia, and another from Pakistan in an international hackathon. We built a project that consolidated information about COVID-19 in one site. This included a map, a feature for crowdsourcing data visualizations, and more. We stopped deploying it at the moment because we ran out of deployment credits, but the code can be found here.

Prior to this, I’ve only attended one-day hackathons - NUS HacknRoll 2019 and HacknRoll 2020. While my team projects in HacknRoll were decent Proof-of-Concepts, I’ve never really continued working on the code. At the end of the one-day hackathon, the code would always devolve into spaghetti code so it wasn’t particularly tempting to continue working on it.

In contrast, given 3 days, we were able to build something with good code quality. In a few week’s time, I’ll be participating in a week-long hackathon. Hopefully, I will be able to build something even better!
